Free online Italian courses for university students and workers with international or special protection

Rules for participation

Società Dante Alighieri (SDA) and the Ministry of University and Research (MUR) are pleased to announce the launch of the first edition of free online Italian language courses aimed at university students, teachers and researchers with international or special protection.

These free online courses are open to:

  • students enrolled in Italian universities/conservatory/academy of fine arts
  • researchers at an Italian universities/conservatory/academy of fine arts or at a research centre recognized by the MUR and
  • professors and visiting professors

SDA, founded in Rome in 1889, operates around the world in over 80 countries and with a network of 400 Committees. Its aims include spreading Italian language and culture.

As part of this mission, and in agreement with MUR, SDA offers free online courses on the Dante.global platform. The courses teach linguistic skills to improve academic careers and promote linguistic integration in Italy.

To access the courses, applicants must:

  • be entitled to international or special protection
  • be enrolled as a student or be employed at an Italian university/conservatory/academy of fine arts.

Application form

– fill in each field of the form

– attach your residence permit or Italian identity card

– for enrolment, registration on the platform and for all communications you must use a single e-mail address!

You will need to fill in every field of the form and attach your residence permit or Italian identity card.

IMPORTANT: always use the same e-mail address for the application, registration on the platform and all related communications.

After submitting your application form, within a few days you will receive an email from SDA containing the following two links:

– link to analysis of needs and linguistic placement test in Italian (reading and writing); and

– link to arrange Zoom interview with one of our teachers (in order to meet you, confirm your identification and complete the linguistic placement in Italian).

IMPORTANT: applicants have until 31 March 2024 to complete registration, and the free online courses start from 6 May 2024.

By 31 March 2024, you must:

1)     complete the linguistic placement test in Italian (reading and writing);

2)     book the Zoom interview with one of our teachers.

Based on your needs and your skills in the Italian language, courses will be offered according to the CEFR levels A1, A2, B1, B2.

The start date of your course will be communicated to you via email, together with the methods of accessing the Dante.global platform and your identification code.

Please note that every course:

  • includes 20 hours of lessons per week (10 hours in synchronous e-learning in the presence of the teacher and 10 hours in asynchronous self-learning) with tutoring and IT support
  • includes an Italian language e-book
  • ends in November 2024 with the PLIDA Italian language certification exam, recognized throughout the world. The certification exam is allowed only with at least 70% of attendance.
IMPORTANT: SDA provides free of charge the relevant free online courses, teaching materials and PLIDA certification.

 SDA reserves the right to make changes to this regulation, in agreement with the MUR.

All documentation acquired will be treated according to the relevant current legislation and in compliance with the privacy policy of SDA. Upon completion of each applicant’s registration and identification, SDA will delete and not retain any identity documents received.

Rome: Italian language course B1 March-June 2024

“THE JOB I WOULD LIKE”: ITALIAN LANGUAGE AND CULTURE COURSE FOR FOREIGNERS

On March 12, the Italian language B1 course organized by Energia per i Diritti Umani APS starts in Rome!

Course Duration

35 hours Italian course + photography workshop + job orientation.
Lessons start: March 12, 2024
Classes end: June 2, 2024

Deadline and registration

certificate of participation.

Hours

Tuesday and Thursday 2 to 4 p.m. or 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Program and objectives

Classes prepare to:
– Search for and respond to a job ad
– Facing a job interview
– Writing a resume

the objective of the course is to facilitate the person’s entry into the world of work (through the creation of a curriculum vitae), finding contacts with professionals and artisans in the SAN Lorenzo neighborhood, and interacting with each of them. The language level reached at the end of the course will be B1.

Rome: agriculture course on cultivation and processing of medicinal plants KORE in Herba 2024

THE SECOND EDITION OF “KORE in Herba” IS COMING!

An agricultural course structured on technical and practical training on cultivation and processing of medicinal plants. The course is aimed at 12 women with a passion and desire to work in the herbal and agricultural sector.

Course start date: Feb. 29

Where

The course will be held at 2 locations:
– INTERSOS24 in Via di Torre Spaccata 157 for the theoretical part.
– KORE’s agricultural fields in Via della Tenuta della Mistica snc for the practical part

The course

The course starts on Feb. 29 and aims to provide 12 women, free of charge, with agricultural and herbal skills. At the end of the training, there will be a selection among the participants for a training internship at KORE s.r.l. social enterprise. All participants will be supported by INTERSOS24’s Job Guidance Desk through monitoring, writing or revising a resume, and active research at the network of virtuous partner companies.

Requirements

– Knowledge of Italian language good (B1) – suitable to understand and interpret the language suitable to understand and spoken in the work environment.
– Aptitude for agricultural work, interest and passion for plants and green spaces, aptitude in teamwork.

There will be a pre-selection and a subsequent round of interviews and practical tests.

Program and training

KORE in Herba has a duration of 4 months and consists of:

16 face-to-face lectures lasting 4 hours each on Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. (INTERSOS24’s Children’s Space is guaranteed on Thursdays for the duration of the course)

16 field practice meetings to be held once a week, morning or afternoon (days to be agreed individually).

The course conducted by 1 lecturer and 1 teaching tutor is structured in 7 modules:

Module 1: Introduction to the world of medicinal plants: definitions, history, dissemination, market, uses and utilizations; Botany: introduction to plant biology, anatomy and physiology; Principles of Agronomy: hints of climatology, soil fertility, tillage techniques and
soil preparation.

Module 2: Cultivation of medicinal plants: crop sheets of herbal species grown at Mistica; Introduction to the
major weeds; Issues in the field; Balsamic time of harvesting; Introduction to different cultivar harvesting methods for the
various herbal uses.

Module 3: First processing of medicinal plants; Introduction to methods of drying, cutting, sorting, blending. Practical field trial with natural dried, monitoring of the drying steps and illustration of the drying process.

Module 4: Practical second-processing exercises for commercial use: cutting and hulling, selection, first packaging, storage; use of main herbal machinery needed for second processing.

Module 5: Practical second processing exercises for home use: infusion preparation, plant selection, infusion time, infusion/decoction difference, herbal tea formulation.

Module 6: The set-up, arrangement and maintenance of a sensory teaching garden with learning of cultivation techniques, from substrate preparation to planting, plant establishment and management, mowing recovery and disposal and through the proper use of equipment and
of specific machinery.

Module 7: In-depth exploration of nursery and seedbed systems; Fundamentals of plant propagation, greenhouse management and innovative technologies in agriculture; Latest trends in sustainable agriculture. Application submission and contact information.

THE SECOND EDITION OF “CUCI CON KORE” ARRIVES!

After one year, “Sew with KORE,” the sewing and pattern making school at KORE tailoring shop aimed at women who want to make their passion for clothing a profession, is back.

Course start date: Feb. 27

Where and how

At INTERSOS24, a multi-purpose space located in Rome at Via di Torre Spaccata, 157 and that houses KORE’s transcultural social tailoring within it.

The course

The course begins Feb. 27 and aims to provide 12 women, free of charge, with basic tailoring skills and the ability to use industrial machines that will enable them to work in artisan tailor shops and large companies operating in the garment industry. At the end of the training course there will be a selection among the participants for a training internship at KORE s.r.l. social enterprise. All participants will also be supported by the Employment Guidance Desk of INTERSOS24 through monitoring, drafting or revising a resume and active search at the network of partner companies.

Requirements

– Good knowledge of the Italian language (B1) – suitable for understanding and
interpret the language spoken in the work environment.
– Familiarity with domestic and/or industrial sewing machines especially linear and overlockers;
– Prior knowledge in cutting and sewing;
– Passion, patience, attention, accuracy and attention to detail;

Program and training

Cuci con KORE has a duration of 4 months and consists of:

– 16 face-to-face classes of 4 hours each, on Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. (INTERSOS24’s Children’s Space is guaranteed on Tuesdays for the duration of the course)

– 16 days of practical shadowing in tailoring that will take place once a week, morning or afternoon (days to be agreed individually).

The course conducted by 1 lecturer and 1 teaching tutor is structured in 10 modules:

Module 1: Study of the characteristics of the main types of fabric; choice of yarns and needles according to the type of fabric.

Module 2: Understand the operation of industry tools, utensils and machines; perform threading the adjustment and
know the functions of the linear sewing machine and overlocker; machine maintenance and safety.

Module 3: Main hand sewing stitches; sewing techniques.

Module 4: Analysis and execution of different types of hemming.

Module 5: Main types of finishing (overlocking, English stitching, bias application).

Module 6: Rebinding, edge and bias application.

Module 7: Applying various zippers, buttons and making buttonholes.

Module 8: Analysis of paper pattern; reading of sewing data sheet.

Module 9: Concepts of placing paper patterns on the fabric (obverse, reverse, the wefts , stretch fabrics obverse and bias).

Module 10: Making a paper pattern and using the techniques
learned.

Applications open for PartecipAzione 2024!

Applications are open from February 1 to March 1 for PartecipAzione, a program of UNHCR Italy and Intersos that targets associations of refugees/asylum seekers and informal groups that, through their work, promote the integration of refugee persons within the economic, social and cultural life of the country.

Also this year, PartecipAzione intends to identify new associations in the country to be involved in capacity-building, coaching and networking activities.

Associations working in Italy to promote the integration and participation of refugees, asylum seekers and stateless persons can participate.

The associations’ proposals must be in line with the program objectives (protection, integration, social inclusion).

The deadline to express your interest is March 1, 2024 at 11 p.m.!
